scheme. No less than 53 members won awards in the six classes. In the senior class, Harry Sawyer defeated Terry Tree by 6 points, 259 to 253. This is the third year Harry has won the title and the I.S.S.A. President, Ron Histed, has presented him with a very fine rose bowl in commemoration of this unusual feat.

Brian Varley, of Torquay, British lightheavyweight champion, came third, and Bill Montague, of Glasgow, won the Scottish best all rounder title.

The Ladies class was won by Dorothy Cox, of Erith, followed by Elizabeth Cameron and Cathie Montague.

In the veteran classes the over 40 class was won by Bob Smith, age 43, and the over 50 class was won by 60-year-old Ron Histed.

These were followed by Ray Jardine, of Bournemouth, John Storton, of Morecambe, and Geoff Morris, Liverpool.

In the junior classes the 11-to-15 age class was won by 11-year-old Ken Smith, of Teddington, over 13-year old Terry Squirrell, of Erith.

The 16-to-19 age class was won by 17-year-old Roger Cox, followed by Laurence Birch, of Morecambe.

In the National League the division one winners were the G.E.C. Sports Club, of Erith, followed by the Glasgow Olympic Club.

In the Second Division, Glasgow Olympic second team won with Teddington P.C. Club second. This was a first venture that has proved to be very popular, keeping up members interest throughout the year.

1965 sees a variation in the rules by teams competing with a different set of pulls for each half of the season. This should prevent the possibility of boredom with the same pulls throughout the year.

The Terry photo competition run by the I.S.S.A. and sponsored by the makers of our official steel strands-H. Terry and Sons Ltd. has again been a popular incentive to physical culturists who train with strands.

Numerous awards have been won in the 1964 competitions-best physique and best action sections. Full results will be published in the next strandpulling article.

Meantime, trainers with strands are invited to send along their best poses taken with or without the steel strands for the 1965 competitions.

Also, if you would like to know more about this go-ahead organisation, the I.S.S.A., then send for the new edition of the I.S.S.A. Handbook, price 2/-, post free, from the Hon. Sec., 30 Mays Road, Teddington, Middlesex.
